South African President Praises Russia for Returning Citizens Misled to Fight in Ukraine
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for helping to send back 17 South Africans to the home country, who allegedly were lured to fight in the Ukraine war. The 17 South Africans believed they were going to Russia for bodyguard training, but instead, they were deployed to the front lines as mercenaries. In South Africa, it's illegal to fight in foreign armies unless the South African government gives them permission to do so. Some of the men have already been sent back, while others are still going through the repatriation process or receiving medical attention. A large-scale investigation is underway, including prominent individuals such as Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, who is accused of recruiting the men. She is the daughter of a former South African president.
